Newton Lake

The following photos were taken at Newton Lake on 9th January 2003

There is a perception amongst local people that the lake needs cleaning up, especially the far end. However, the mud provides perfect habitat for Teal, and Newton Lake is the top site in St. Helens for the species, with between 100 and 200 birds present in winter. A truly beautiful species, which it would be sad to loose for yet another manicured and lifeless lake.  Remove the rubbish yes, but not the habitat.
